The Truth

  • Songwriter:

A song about perspective. The daily grind of life wears us down and you can reach a point where you feel like you've had it... But this is life, and it really is better than not being alive. In fact most of the problems we have in modern life probably would seem laughable to humans only a century ago.

The subject of this song is making things hard on themselves by clinging to a negative perspective. It is not only damaging to this person, but also to those around them, and it leads to isolation. In the chorus, a friend is appealing to the subject to consider this, and abandon the negative pattern.

Lyrics

There's a limit to the strain you can hide on your face
But a visit to this pain let's you keep up your pace
You can use your confusion to lean on their pity
But the truth is illusion. Belief is not pretty.

Baby, this is illusion
But the truth is not that bad
This is crazy, all this confusion
Needs to get on

There's a change in your pace when we can't see your face
There's a glaze in your gaze as you face the disgrace
You lose traction no action can bring satisfaction
You lose track, and look back when the nightmare hits head-on

Baby, this is illusion
But the truth is not that bad
This is crazy, all this confusion
Needs to get on

Recording Notes

There are two versions of this song. An acoustic one was originally released with this album. This particular version is a full on instrumentation with heavy guitars, drums and bass.

Maybe I will make an acoustic version again one day. I like having unplugged versions. It gives me nostalgia for music in the 90s.
