A Prayer For Dante

  • Albums:

This song was inspired by the Divine Comedy. It was assigned reading in college and I found it to be very inspiring.

Specifically a moment where Dante is freaking out, and Virgil stops to tell Dante that he is far too beautiful for fear. I found this to be a beautiful thing, and so it found its way into this song.

I also took inspiration from the epics with the whole metaphor in the outro.

The song is an appeal for the listener to believe in themselves.

Lyrics

I heard what you told me
I know, but you’re only alone
And you need me

Save it for later
We’ll talk when you’ve made it home
Just believe me

Right on, right on, right on, right on
‘Cause you are far too beautiful for fear

You look like you mean it
Don’t know what you’ve seen but you know
You could leave it

I’m here if you need me
I mean it you need to believe
Can’t you see it?

Reason’s in a cloud
Can’t settle down
What’s in the water’s killing me

Such a state of mind
A waste of time
An open eye would find

A heal is poised to crush you
Grind you down and while you’re down
You’ll find you glorified the sound
You found when you first came around

Like the hawk your master calls you
All you know is how to follow
Falling down and now you wallow
In the mud your song is sung
And now you’re done

Recording Notes

I was learning how to record when this was captured. I was new to programming drums, and that is obvious. Maybe it would be fun to do remixes with different drums, or maybe even re-record it?
